Thinking of joining our choir?
St Peter's Consort is a friendly, hard-working group of singers and we always love to hear from those who wish to sing with us - particularly from tenors and basses! We are an inclusive choir and accept applications from all backgrounds, genders and races. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings, and arrange our rehearsals based on availability and time needed to accomplish a project. Our rehearsal space is a beautiful little church, St Peter's and St Leonard's in Horbury:
We give at least three concerts a season, with one per year (usually our autumn concert) at Wakefield Cathedral. Our Christmas and spring concerts are usually held at St Peter's and St Leonard's, Horbury. We often have opportunity to perform extra concerts elsewhere throughout the season. We also sing for services at Wakefield Cathedral at least once a year.
Our singers are experienced, confident choral singers with a good sight-reading ability. We aim to perform to the highest standards, so singers are expected to work on music independently, outside of rehearsals. There are often the opportunities for step-out solos for those who want to do so. We always share these opportunities fairly among members who wish to partake, but you will never be forced to sing solo if you don't want to.
We perform a wide variety of repertoire and examples of our recent performances include Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Frank Martin's Mass for Double Choir, Ralph Vaughan-Williams' Serenade to Music and Will Todd's Mass in Blue.
If you would like to join us, please send us an email including which voice part you prefer to sing and a breif discription of your experience in choral singing. If you have a short recording of your singing and a choral CV, great, if not, don't worry. Provided we have a vacancy in your voice part, you will be invited to come and sing with us for one rehearsal, after which there will be a brief, informal audition where you will be asked to sing a piece of music of your choosing, and undergo a quick sight-reading test.
If we sound like the right choir for you, please get in touch!
